Manufacturer Description
This is the 70th Anniversary of Supersonic Flight Challenge Coin to commemorate the first supersonic flight by U.S. Air Force pilot Capt. Chuck Yeager on October 14, 1947. The coin is 2-1/2 in. wide and each one is serialized. The unique hexagon shape represents the six mach records broken at Edwards Air Force Base from 1947-1961. The front of the coin features the F-35 Lightning II, the US Air Force's latest fifth-generation supersonic fighter. The back features the B-29 (piloted by Maj. Bob Cardenas) and the Bell X-1 (piloted by Capt. Chuck Yeater) over the Rogers Lakebed at Edwards. Perfect for military or aviation coin collectors.
